Graduated, full of energy, and still waiting for a teaching job? This one moves fast. Punjab is hiring thousands of School Teaching Interns for government schools, the applications run online, and merit lists follow within days, not months.
This guide covers STI jobs in simple words. The stipend for each school level, who can apply, how the merit is calculated, and the exact steps to submit your form on the official portal before your district window closes.
What Are STI Jobs
STI stands for School Teaching Intern. The School Education Department Punjab hires graduates as interns to teach in government primary, elementary, secondary and higher secondary schools where regular teachers are short.
It is an internship, not a permanent job. The current round runs from November 2026 to 31 May 2027. Even the Punjab cabinet backed it in its meeting this week, approving the fresh recruitment of school teaching interns in government schools.

STI Stipend by School Level
The monthly stipend depends on the level you teach at:
- Primary level: Rs 38,000 per month
- Elementary level: Rs 40,000 per month
- Secondary and higher secondary level: Rs 45,000 per month
Over a seven month term, that adds up to a respectable amount for a fresh graduate. More than the money, you get real classroom experience, the kind that counts when regular teaching posts open later. Reports put the seats in this round in the thousands across Punjab, hired district by district against vacant slots.
Who Can Apply for STI Jobs
The rules are simple. Check them against yourself:
- Age between 21 and 45 years
- Punjab domicile
- For primary level, BA or BSc
- For elementary, secondary and higher secondary levels, MA, MSc or BS in the relevant subject
The final degree rules sit in the official advertisement for your district, so read it before you lock your choices. Teaching full time for the whole term is part of the deal. If you are also weighing other options, our Punjab IT internship guide covers a different route for tech graduates.

How to Apply Online on the STI Portal
Applications go through one door only, the official portal. Here is the flow, step by step. Open the portal and register with your CNIC and a password. Build your profile with your education record, from matric to your highest degree. Then open the available internships list, pick schools in your tehsil that match your qualification, and submit. Keep a printed copy of your application for the interview.
Apply only on the official STI portal. Job sites can share news, but none of them can take your application. Do not hand your documents to anyone who promises you a confirmed seat.
After applications close, merit lists go up on the notice board of the school you applied to and on the portal itself. Shortlisted candidates face interviews. Reports put the first merit lists in the last week of October, with grievance hearings and interviews right after. Your district schedule rules everything, so check the portal daily while the process runs.
How the Merit Is Calculated
There is no written test. Merit comes from your academic record plus a small interview score. Degrees carry most of the weight, and the weight shifts by level. At primary level your matric marks matter most, while for higher classes your graduation and master results pull the score harder.
That means two things for you. First, enter your marks exactly as printed on your result cards, because a wrong entry can cancel your candidature at verification. Second, do not skip the interview. Those few marks often decide who gets the last seat in a school. Candidates with college teaching experience can compare the terms in our college teaching interns guide.
