Petrol Price in Pakistan: New Rates After the Latest Hike

Petrol price in Pakistan: fuel prices moved again last night, and this time petrol did not escape. The federal government raised petrol by Rs 1.54 a litre and high speed diesel by Rs 2.16 a litre, with the new rates in force from Tuesday. If you filled your tank on Monday evening, you bought at the old price. If you fill it today, you will not.

Petrol now costs Rs 379.25 a litre. Diesel now costs Rs 395.82. Both figures are the ex depot rates set under the government’s pricing mechanism, and both arrived in a week that has already seen diesel climb twice. Here is the full picture, without the noise.

Petrol Price in Pakistan: The New Rates

The latest revision, announced on the night of October 26, sets the following rates:

  • Petrol: Rs 379.25 a litre, up Rs 1.54 from Rs 377.71.
  • High speed diesel: Rs 395.82 a litre, up Rs 2.16 from Rs 393.66.

These rates apply from Tuesday, October 27. Riders trying to cut their fuel bill altogether can also read our Punjab E-Bike Scheme guide, and small vehicle owners should check the relief route in our petrol subsidy guide.

How Prices Moved This Week

The week tells a short, sharp story. On Thursday, diesel rose Rs 1.64 a litre while petrol actually fell Rs 1.60, taking petrol to Rs 377.71. Then, for October 24 to 26, the Petroleum Division raised diesel again by Rs 1.91 to Rs 393.66 and left petrol unchanged. Now diesel has risen a second time in days, and petrol has followed it up. Added together, the two diesel revisions alone have added Rs 4.07 a litre in less than a week.

Why Prices Changed

The Petroleum Division says the revision was necessitated by global developments, including movements in Platts benchmark rates, premiums and incidental costs. The backdrop is a tense oil market: Brent crude traded near six month highs after attacks on Saudi Arabia raised fears of further disruption to Middle East supply, even as hopes of easing tensions between the United States and Iran pulled prices back slightly on Monday. Pakistan imports most of its fuel, so those swings reach the pump within days.

Taxes inside the pump price. A large part of what you pay is not the fuel itself. The government continues to levy Rs 114 a litre in taxes and duties on petrol and Rs 100 a litre on diesel. That is why even a small move in the international price, or in the rupee, shows up as a visible change at the pump, and why the ex depot rate and the price on the station board are rarely the same conversation.

How Fuel Prices Are Decided Now

Since July, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority has been deciding fuel prices on a daily basis linked to international market trends, replacing the longer fortnightly cycle. That is why revisions now arrive in short bursts, sometimes for only three days at a time, as the October 24 to 26 window showed. For households, the practical lesson is simple: a price that holds today is no promise about tomorrow.

What This Means for You

For a car owner, the Rs 1.54 petrol hike adds roughly Rs 77 to a 50 litre fill. For transporters, farmers and anyone running diesel machinery, the Rs 4.07 weekly diesel climb lands much harder, and it tends to pass through into freight rates and food prices over the following days. On September 13 the Prime Minister announced a relief scheme for motorcycles, autos and vehicles of up to 800cc to ease exactly this burden, and that remains the one cushion in the system for small vehicle owners.
