Language Learning Programme: Punjab to Teach 13 Languages to Youth
Speaking a second language can double a young person value in the job market, and Punjab government has finally put real weight behind that idea. A new language learning programme approved by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will offer courses in 13 languages for the first time in the province, as part of a much bigger plan to give skills training to one million young people over the next three years.
The decisions came out of a special meeting on skills development held in Lahore on Sunday. Along with the language courses, the meeting approved new centres of excellence, certification for machinery operators, and a first of its kind cleaning academy. It is the widest skills package announced in Punjab in years.
Language Learning Programme and the Skills Target
The language learning programme will run courses in 13 languages, aimed at young people who want jobs abroad or work with foreign clients online. Language skill is often the one missing piece for Pakistani workers who already have a trade, and Gulf and European employers both ask for it again and again.
The bigger target behind the programme is one million youth trained in three years. The Skills Development Department told the meeting that around 400,000 young people have already been trained, and a large share of them found employment, including thousands who went abroad. Under a separate TEVTA initiative, 69 institutions will train 45,700 young people every year in line with the European Qualifications Framework.

New Centres of Excellence Approved
The meeting approved Punjab first modern woodworking centre of excellence, along with specialised centres for electrical work, vehicle technology and digital marketing. These centres are meant to teach trades on modern equipment, so a trainee learns the machines actually used in workshops and factories today.
Certification programmes for agriculture and heavy machinery operators were also approved. A certified operator earns more than an uncertified one, both inside Pakistan and in Gulf markets, because employers can trust the paper. Young women exploring training options can also read our guide to the She Thread Programme, which pays a monthly stipend during textile training.
Cleaning Academy and Digital Exams
One genuinely new idea in the package is the province first cleaning and cleaner academy. Trainees will learn professional cleaning for healthcare, hospitality and domestic services under the Punjab Central Cleaning Authority. It sounds small, but organised cleaning is a growing paid service in big cities and in Gulf households and hospitals.
The meeting also approved a digital examination system with online registration, digital papers and QR codes. The new system is expected to raise examination capacity from 200,000 to 600,000 candidates, which means faster tests and quicker certificates for trainees. Candidates who prefer direct recruitment can check our AIDU jobs guide alongside these training routes.

How Young People Will Join These Courses
The government has announced the approvals, and the departments will now open admissions through TEVTA institutions and the Skills Development Department in phases. Course wise dates, fees and centre lists are announced by the institutions when a batch opens, so the practical step for any interested young person is to watch the official TEVTA announcements and apply as soon as their chosen course opens.
Be careful with one thing. No approved fee list has been published with this announcement, so anyone demanding a large payment today in the name of these approved programmes is ahead of the official process. Wait for the institution announcement and apply through the official channel only.
Why This Package Matters
Punjab has never lacked training schemes. What it has lacked is scale and a link to real jobs. This package attacks both problems at once, with a one million target, European standard frameworks in 69 TEVTA institutions, and trades chosen around actual demand, from digital marketing to heavy machinery.
The language courses tie the whole thing together. A trained electrician who also speaks Arabic or German is simply worth more in the market than one who does not. If the departments deliver even half of what was approved in that meeting, the effect on youth employment will show within two years.
